Front End Loader was formed in the early summer of 1991 in the back streets of the Sydney

. Bow Campbell and Davis Claymore had just broken away from their previous band and then recruited Richard Corey and Pete Kostic in hope of starting a new outfit. The name, 'Front End Loader' was originally chosen as a ridiculous, strictly temporary band name, as the group needed to call themselves something to be able to enter into the Sydney University band competition.

Their first album was the self-titled Front End Loader, featuring the singles "Weak as Piss", "'Fraid Knot" and "All Star Jam". An appearance at the 1993 Sydney Big Day Out

In early 1994 they released the Adolescent Fantasy World EP, and second album Let's Ride!, was released in March 1995. Their third album, Last of the V8 Interceptors emerged in August 1997, which was named in honour of the movie Mad Max

's Annandale Hotel, was anxiously awaited on by fans for approximately 4 years. Finally released on 01.04.2008, Laughing with Knives is a 2 CD set which Includes 22 tracks + a bonus 19-track disc of rarities & out-of-print recordings & an 8-page booklet with track-by-track liner notes.

In March 2011 it was announced that the band's fifth studio album, Ritardando would be released on May 6 through MGM distribution to coincide with a national tour.
