. On January 23, 1983, the new network was renamed Frecuencia 2 (Frequency 2) and kept that name until 1995, when it was finally renamed Frecuencia Latina.

The Winter Group led by Samuel Winter and Mendel Winter, majority shareholder of the station, gained control of it in 1997 after Fujimori's regime stripped Ivcher (minority shareholder) of his Peruvian nationality. All of this was prompted by newscasts that revealed the corruption of former president Alberto Fujimori

Broadcasting growth

At the beginning, Channel 2 only broadcast in Lima, to the north up to Huacho and to the south down to Chincha. Afterward, the channel decided to install their first transmitters in Ica in 1987. This allowed them to start installing more transmitters and branches all over the country. In 1990 they started broadcasting via satellite PanAmSat to reach all Peru using cutting edge technology. From then on, the channel has been trying to become the channel with the highest broadcasting coverage in Peru. Frecuencia Latina remains a competitor against other Peruvian TV networks and also is transmitted on satellite throughout South America.
