Frank Mountford had a long career with Stoke City after he moved down from Doncaster from an early age and joined Stoke's youth team in 1937. He established himself in the War League squad in 1942 and managed to kept his place for thirteen years making 608 appearances for The Potters 183 coming during the war. He is only behind John McCue
