, Tylecote studied medicine at Manchester University, where he served as Professor of Medicine from 1929 to 1940, when he became Emeritus Professor. His publications included Diagnosis and Treatment in Diseases of the Lungs in 1927, and he was President of the National Smoke Abatement Society for two years.

He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1956, and served as a City Councillor as a Conservative
