The France national under-20 football team is the national under-20 football team of France
and is controlled by the French Football Federation
. The team competes in the FIFA U-20 World Cup
, which is held every two years and the Toulon Tournament
, which is held every May when football league seasons have ended. The team usually participates in the latter tournament when the under-21 team
doesn't send a team. The under-20 team also participates in the quad-annual Mediterranean Games
and Jeux de la Francophonie
football tournaments.
The under-20 team is often cited as a feeder squad
to the under-21 team as it rarely plays. In the FIFA U-20 World Cup, France have reached the quarter-finals of the competition on two occasions; in 1997
and 2001
. In the 2011 edition of the competition
, the team reached the semi-finals for the first time in national team history.
