 has a land area of 704.68 km² (272.1 sq mi) and a population of 1,083,400 as of 2010. It is famous for its beaches and ocean resorts. "碧海金沙"(which means "blue sea and golden beach") is a famous place for Shanghainese to spend their weekend.

, the King of Wu's three daughters hung themselves rather than be caught by the King of Yue's soldiers. About three to five years ago,the town was easily navigable on foot. But after development, it become a town larger than 31.9 km2, which will be 2.5 times larger than the old one. The town is also a short taxi ride from Xinghai Beach which has a Howard Johnson Hotel and other resorts. It is set for major development.

Nanqiao Town can be reached by catching the subway to Xinzhuang and then a public bus (XinNan) or going to Jing Jiang Park by subway and taking Public Bus (NanMei - the fastest way))from there to Nanqiao. There is also a bus from Shanghai South Railway Station South Square (ShangFeng). Alternatively, you can change over from metro line 1 to line 5 at Xinzhuang. Get off line 5 at Dongchuan Lu. It will cost 30-40rmb for a taxi from here. It will take you 1~2 hours from Shanghai downtown.
