Personal life

Camiroaga was born in Santiago

 to María de la Luz Fernández Sternan and Jorge Camiroaga Puch. He attended primary school at Colegio San Ignacio del Bosque and secondary school at Colegio Marshall.

In 1987 Camiroaga completed studies as Producer and Television Director at Instituto Incacea. He also has unfinished studies in journalism at Universidad Las Condes and theater at Escuela Fernando González.

's press department. But he quickly went from off to on-camera, first as host of Videotop, a music video program, and then in 1989, running a small segment at Extra jóvenes, a teenage-oriented show. His chemistry with the show's hostess, Katherine Salosny, proved successful and he became her co-host months later. In 1991 he declined an offer to become a news anchor and continued at Extra jóvenes, now partnering with Claudia Conserva

In 1992 Camiroaga was hired by TVN, where he co-hosted Buenos días a todos — the oldest morning talk show in Chilean television— with Tati Penna. The couple only lasted six months in the air before being replaced by Margot Kahl and Jorge Hevia. (Camiroaga continued on the show, replacing Hevia during the summers.)

During the following years Camiroaga participated in numerous programs for TVN, such as, Motín a bordo, La noche del mundial, Pase lo que pase, Con mucho cariño, Ciudad Gótica, Pelotón and Halcón y Camaleón.

In early 2006 Jorge Hevia left Buenos días a todos and Camiroaga became an established host, sharing duties with Tonka Tomicic

, then Salosny and finally Carolina de Moras. That same year he began hosting his own late-night talk show, Animal nocturno. In 2009 he co-presented, with Soledad Onetto, the Viña del Mar International Song Festival

Death

On 2 September 2011, Camiroaga disappeared after the Chilean Air Force

 aerodrome. The CASA 212 tried to touch down twice unsuccessfully, before disappearing. Rescue boats searching in the aftermath found only parts of the aircraft and some suitcases in the ocean. On 9 September 2011, body remains rescued from the sea were identified by DNA tests as Camiroaga. Authorities believe the passengers died instantly upon crashing.
