History

FM 188 was originally designated in 1945 on a section from FM 117 southwest 8 miles via Ft. Inge in Uvalde County

. This route was transferred to FM 140 in 1954. The current FM 188 was designated in 1959. The highway officially became UR 188 in 1995.
