. Desna was formed in 1960 under the name of Avanhard Chernihiv. Between 1961-75 the club was called Desna. It was the renamed to SC Chernihiv for 2 years and renamed once again to Desna in 1977.

After the completion of the 2009–10 Ukrainian First League the club failed attestation and the PFL withdrew their license. However, the club was reformed with new management as "Sporting Football Club" Desna Chernihiv and was readmitted in the Ukrainian Second League
