Cedefop undertakes this task by analysing and disseminating information on vocational education and training systems, and on related policies, research and practice. In effect, Cedefop provides the evidence that helps policy-makers make decisions in the field of vocational education and training, making the agency the centre of expertise for related policy-making across the EU.

The Centre provides research results, analyses, policy advice and comparative information. It also brings together various stakeholders - including trade unions and employers' associations - in its conferences and workshops. The issues it covers span guidance and counselling; training for older workers; forecasting the demand and supply of skills; the recognition and validation of learning that takes place outside the education system; and the development of qualification

Cedefop is one of the oldest European agencies. It was founded in 1975 in West Berlin, and moved to Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1995. The Centre is run by a Governing Board in which national governments, trade unions, employers’ organisations, and the European Commission
