 in the central German district of Minden-Lübbecke and has its origins in the brewery founded in 1842 by Ernst Johann Barre. Based on beer production the firm, like its immediate competitor, the Herforder Brauerei, to the largest breweries in East Westphalia and is of regional importance. The brewery lies at the southern end of the pass over the Wiehen Hills to Lübbecke at the foot of the Reineberg

Its regional association has led to many festivals founded or supported by the brewery, such as the Beer Fountain Festival (Bierbrunnenfest) that has taken place since 1954 in Lübbecke. The brewery is a founding member of Die Freien Brauer ("The Independent Brewers") initiative, an association of medium-sized private breweries in Germany and Austria.

Barre Bräu is not just known in the Lübbecker Land, but also further north on the North German Plain where its products may be found in restaurants and special outlets. Likewise, Barre is also quite an important beer in the county of Herford

According to a its own sources Barre is brewed in accordance with the purity law (Reinheitsgebot) of 1516. In 2010 it produced 150,000 hectolitres of beer.
