Electric Daisy Carnival
Encyclopedia
Electric Daisy Carnival is an annual electronic dance music festival held in the South West United States on the last weekend of June. The event was held in Southern California from 1997 to 2010, and was moved to Las Vegas in 2011.
In recent years, satellite events have been held in Orlando, Dallas, Puerto Rico and Colorado. Attendees are commonly dressed in radically expressive, vivid "rave" attire (though the term "rave" can be highly subjective).
In 2009, the festival was expanded to a two day event, which brought in 130,000 attendees. The Las Vegas event lasted 3 days in 2011, attracting an estimated 70,000-75,000 people on Friday, 85,000 people on Saturday, and 63,000 people on Sunday,

. The event drew criticism from local authorities after numerous people were taken to the hospital by paramedics, and after a 15 year old attendee died of an ecstasy overdose,
the city of Los Angeles began to consider banning all raves from being held in the city. The Coliseum Commission meeting on July 16, 2010, dropped its moratorium on all remaining events scheduled for 2010 and kept a moratorium on booking any future events, pending the outcome of the use of new security and safety provisions. EDC was again held in 2010, in Colorado, headlined by Benny Benassi. It marked its three-year anniversary, and was held at the Arapahoe Fairgrounds again, in Aurora, Colorado, on June 12.

The first Electric Daisy Carnival was held in 1997 at the Shrine Expo Hall. The name usage was acquired by Insomniac's partner Philip Blaine. This refers to the name borrowed from Steve Kool-Aid's original creation from several years prior whom Philip knew through his colleague Gary (Steve's partner) at 1500 Records.
