History

Eggo waffles were invented in the 1930s in San Jose, California

, by three brothers, Tony, Sam, and Frank Dorsa. In 1953, the Dorsa brothers introduced Eggo frozen waffles to supermarkets throughout the United States. Frozen waffles do not require a waffle iron

Eggo waffles get their name from their unique eggy batter. When the Dorsas first introduced the product it was called "Froffles," a portmanteau of frozen waffles. However people started referring to them as eggos due to their eggy taste. The name caught on and the brothers began using the moniker in marketing. Eventually the name became synonymous with the product and in 1955 the Dorsa brothers officially changed the name to the now famous Eggo.

2009 shortage

In Fall of 2009, there was a shortage of some Eggo products due to several problems. Among these were a Listeria contamination which caused the Atlanta plant to be shut down for cleaning, severe flooding in the Atlanta area

Modern Brands

Eggo waffles now serve different types of waffle such as thick and fluffy, and french toaster sticks. These brands are very popular, and are widely consumed over america. A version of whole grain, healthy and low fat, and even family packs that vary, are available as an eggo product

Blueberry Waffles

The Eggo blueberry waffles were named and said as plain, dry, tasteless, and very hard to cook through without burning it. This was an issue for many Eggo consumers, and it almost got the product removed like the lego shaped waffles made in the early 2000's
