He was the youngest son of John Aikin, M.D., and was born at Warrington

, the architect of the Millbank Penitentiary, and published some designs in concert with him. About 1814 his business took him to Liverpool

. He settled there, and furnished designs for various buildings in that city. He wrote articles upon architecture in Rees's Encyclopædia, an account of St. Paul's Cathedral, and other treatises. Between 1804 and 1814 he exhibited some designs at the Royal Academy

. He died at Stoke Newington
