. Situated at the intersection of Interstate 55
and Veterans Boulevard, the mall is anchored by four department stores — J. C. Penney

, the mall opened its doors in July 1987 with a total 236324 square feet (21,955 m²) of retail space. The mall was built on land owned by the Sherman family.
In 1994, the Beall-Ladymon chain was bought out and converted to a Stage department store in early 1995. Sears replaced the former Wal-Mart anchor space, vacated in 1998 when Wal-Mart built a Supercenter next door, in March 1999. A major overhaul of the mall in 1999 included a 15466 square feet (1,437 m²) expansion of the J.C. Penney anchor, construction of an additional 25000 square feet (2,323 m²) of space for specialty shops, and addition of fourth large (71798 square feet (6,670 m²)) anchor, Mississippi-based McRae's
. This expansion, capped by a grand re-opening in September 1999, left the mall with over 400000 square feet (37,161 m²) of retail space.
In 2002, Mississippi Business Journal reported that Prescott Sherman had given $2 million to the School of Engineering at the University of Mississippi
from the Edgewood Mall.
The mall's overall business and store mix continued to develop in 2003, with the mall maintaining high occupancy as of August 2008.

, to Edgewood Mall in 2001. Opening its doors on September 4, 2001, this office was located at the north entrance of the mall between J. C. Penney and McRae's. In February 2007, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety announced that the office was being forced to relocate by the end of March 2007 because their space in the mall had been acquired by another party.
