Ebute Metta is a Yoruba

 word for a place known as three shores. Ebute means shore and Meta means three. This part of Lagos is mainly residential, and crowdy. However, EB (for short) also has a few important buildings including The Nigerian Railway Corporation Headquarters, Post Offices, St Paul's Catholic Church, the famous Oyingbo market, a major bus terminal, Foucos Secondary School (a school built by the former minister for education), Junior Strides Academy, Ajayi Memorial Hospital, and shops of all types.

Ebute Metta is also a main access route that links mainland Lagos to the 3 main islands of Victoria
