East Park is a park in Wolverhampton
, England. Its name is also used for the East Park
ward, which overs the Monmore Green
and Deansfield
areas.
In the early 20th century a boating lake was made in the park using a series of the cities many canal systems. Problems were caused when the old coal mines that were previously there began to drain the water from the lake. Eventually work was discontinued and the place where the lake eventually became a golf course, children's paddling pool, playground and an astro-turf playing field.
A well known monument in the park is the clock tower which has been out of order for over 30 years. Local MP's have promised to renevate the park and its 130 year old clock tower.
Once a year the nationally acclaimed Wolvestock festival takes place. It has been hosted by East park for over ten years and annually brings in over 4000 people. The festival now in its 14th year is the largest free to enter festival in the UK.
