, the CDP has a total area of 1.8 square miles (4.7 km²), of which, 1.7 square miles (4.4 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square mile (0.1035995244 km²) of it (2.26%) is water.
East Ithaca is near the south end of Cayuga Lake
, just east of the City of Ithaca. While known as East Ithaca, it is also considered to be part of East Hill, a designation shared with the contiguous area within the City of Ithaca

There were 1,017 households out of which 19.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.2% were married couples
living together, 5.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 53.3% were non-families. 31.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.16 and the average family size was 2.66.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 15.2% under the age of 18, 15.0% from 18 to 24, 41.0% from 25 to 44, 18.9% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 104.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.1 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $56,742. Males had a median income of $38,676 versus $25,125 for females. The per capita income
