The station was originally opened as Budleigh on the Budleigh Salterton Railway

, which departed from the Sidmouth Railway

at . The station was renamed as East Budleigh in 1898.

Passenger and freight services were withdrawn in the late sixties, with complete closure in 1967.

The station building and platform survive as private accomdation, with a few alterations.
