History

The first exhibition was held in 2004, organized by the Royal College Union (RCU) as a expansion to the career guidance program it conducted for senior students of Royal College Colombo

. Its aim was to attracted higher education providers and employers from the mercantile sector to meet school leavers and unemployed young, to provide career guidance and employment opportunities. As its popularity grew the government, state universities and foreign universities participate and contributed. As a result, to expand its reach a secondary exhibition was organized in Kandy in 2006 following the primary one in Colombo.

Lately EDEX expanded, from a career fair and education exhibition to a platform to promote sustainable living

with the Think Green initiative and creation of online job portal that is active all year round. EDEX Sithuwam 2012 art competition is the latest addition to the EDEX expo. The EDEX Expo 2012 is expected to attract over 250 educational institutions from 20 countries.
