ECYD stands for Education, Culture and Youth Development. In translating the original Spanish
Educación, Cultura y Deportes (literally: Education Culture and Sports), the acronym was kept while changing the words slightly. It is a Catholic youth organization affiliated with the Legion of Christ
and Regnum Christi
movement for youth aged 11 to 18. It currently has tens of thousands of members in 30 countries.
ECYD is the heart of Conquest (boys) and Challenge (girls) clubs in the United States and Canada. Most ECYD members are also members of one of these clubs; this link is not exclusive as one in these clubs need not be a member and a memeber need not be part of a club.

Ethos
ECYD has a Christ-centered spirtuality, following the same general lines as the Legion and Regnum Christi. Upon Joining ECYD, a member commits to be a better friend of Christ, and to do this say a few prayers, practice virtue, and do some apostolate (service project). For each progressive stage, the members focus on one love and receive a commitment card that has that love. The commitments vary for each stage adapting to the ages of the members.Founding
