Michael B. Kastan, MD, PhD, a renowned cancer scientist and Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, was named as the first Executive Director of the Duke Cancer Institute in May 2011.

In November 2009, Duke Medicine had a groundbreaking for the new seven-floor Duke Cancer Center building, which should is scheduled to open in 2012.
