Between the two World Wars, Dristor contained the southern gate of the city and the road (Drumul Dristorului) that led to Southern Dobruja

(whence the name is derived). The same street was known in the 19th century as "Gura Lupului" (Wolf's Mouth).
Prior to the 1960s, there were no apartment buildings in the area, the houses being demolished in the 1970s and replaced with 4 and 10-floors apartment buildings.
