ice hockey team for two season from 1979-1981. Ross became head coach at the University of Alabama in Huntsville
starting in the 1982 season. Under Ross, Alabama-Huntsville won the US National Club Championship in 1983 and 1984, and in 1985 was the runner-up. Ross led the Chargers to two NCAA Division II men's ice hockey championships in 1996 and 1998. He coached the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers ice hockey
program for 25 years before retiring in 2007.

Doug was the highest scoring right wing in the nation in 1975 and nominated for the All-Century Team.
At Oakland Community College
in 1973 Doug was voted the MJCHA Tournament MVP.
In 2007 he received the USA Hockey Distinguished Service Award.
In 2002-2003 Doug was named the College Hockey America Coach of the Year.
In 1998 Doug was named the State of Alabama Collegiate Coach of the Year (Sington Award).
