Domakonda is known for its fort & temples especially Mahakali Temple. It is a mandal located centrally connecting jangampally & Bipet. Another heritage centre near the town of Nizamabad is Domakonda Fort that stands as a magnificent example of the defence architecture of those days. The fort is beautifully built, with a blend of Muslim and Hindu architecture, as the place was ruled by them. As you enter the fort, the very sight of the arched gateway speaks of the Asaf Jaahi architecture. The fort has number of tall, round and square fortresses running all over its compound wall. There are two palaces and a temple complex inside the fort. The palaces are excellently built especially the windows with tainted paintings and the wooden architecture are very attractive. There is a lotus pond in these palaces.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and if you observe, it reflects the Kakatiyan style of architecture, as it was built during the Kakatiyan Era. The temple stands on a 3 feet platform with a beautifully carved Nandi (the bull- vehicle of Lord Shiva) outside the temple, in the open space.

Domakonda Shivalayam, Nizamabad District
This Lord Shiva's stone temple stands testimony to the Kakatiya rule in Southern India and is believed to be constructed by Ramappa, a great sculptor in the times of Kakatiya Kingdom. The temple is located on the way to Nizamabad from Hyderabad, in a small village called Domakonda, falling in the premises of the “Killa Domakonda” (Domakonda Fort).
You will not find a flag mast in front of the temple unlike other temples. An explanation is that the temple doesn’t have a gopuram (temple tower). However there are temples having flag mast even with out the temple tower.
A few years back the temple was in dilapidated condition. Very recently the stone temple was completely disassembled and re-arranged to bring it into today’s firm standing. The temple has a huge shiva linga - considered as an embodiment of Lord Shiva, with its guarding presence by the Nandhi (Bull) carved from a single stone.
The temple is much elevated by many rock beds beneath giving a high standing from the ground level. The temple roof stands on eighteen stone carved pillars.
There is not so much information about the temple except for its archaeological importance. It should be on your must to visit list if you are at Domakonda.
