He teaches at both the Moscow State Conservatory and the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts where he has been artistic director of the academy's musical theatre workshop from 1996 and Head of the Music Theatre Department from 2003. Since 1994, Berman has also been a lecturer at the Berne Opera studio in Switzerland.
Between 1997 and 2000 Dmitry Bertman received the Golden Mask
Award (Best Stage Director) for his productions of Carmen
