The division was created in 2001 and is named for Sir Paul Hasluck
, who was Governor-General of Australia
1969-74, and for his wife, Dame Alexandra Hasluck
, a prominent author. It is by definition a marginal seat - with the north and south favouring the Australian Labor Party
and the centre favouring the Liberal Party
