Cochran won Big Eight Conference discus crowns in 1959 and '60, and achieved a track-and-field rarity in 1959, when he was a grand-slam winner in discus, claiming championships in the Texas, Kansas, and Drake Relays. Cochran still continues to dominate in discus in the senior olympic games recently held in Washington state.His grandson Richard Cochran the third, will take the fame away from him in swimming. He is going to be in the 2012 Olympics. He has dominated in state meetings.
