Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara (DBKU) or The Commission of The City of Kuching North is a local authority which administers Kuching city centre
and other areas. The agency is under Ministry of Environment, Sarawak
. DBKU are responsible for public health and sanitation, waste removal and management, town planning, environmental protection and building control, social and economic development and general maintenance functions of urban infrastructure. The DBKU main headquarters is located at Bukit Siol, Petra Jaya
. Currently, the Commissioner of Kuching North City Hall is YBhg. Datuk Haji Abang Abdul Wahap Haji Abang Julai, who took the oath of office as the 6th Mayor on August 1, 2011, replacing the previous Commissioner, YBhg. Haji Mohammad Atei Abang Medaan, who retired.

Background
Kuching was granted a city status on 1 August 1988 making it the second Malaysian's city after Kuala Lumpur. Due to its vastness the city was divided into two administrative areas: namely north and south.
