The German Ice Hockey Federation , commonly abbereviated as DEB, has been the responsible federation of ice hockey associations since its establishment on June 16, 1963, for the sport of ice hockey
in Germany
(until 1990 exclusive for the Federal Republic of Germany and West Berlin). Up to the time of the establishment of the DEB, ice hockey was one of many different ice and winter sports overseen by the Deutschen Eissport-Verband.
With the establishment the German Ice Hockey Federationm took over the competence for the play enterprise of the supraregional leagues (especially the Bundesliga) and the competence for (for the time being national team. It became additional (West German representative in the International Ice Hockey Federation
