Deneysville is the largest town on the Vaal Dam and is situated on the Free State side of the Vaal River. Only 1.5 hours from Johannesburg and a little more from Pretoria. The roads are very good and attract many bikers to visit the town for "the breakfast run" on weekends. There is easy access to the water for boats and fishermen and four yacht clubs that hold regular sailing races at weekends. Two of the most known races are Keel Boat Week held at Deneysville Aquatic Club and Round The Island Yacht Race which is held at Lake Deneys Yacht Club. Because of the reported pollution of the Vaal River becoming a health hazard Deneysville attracts ever increasing numbers of watersports lovers every weekend and at holiday times.
