The Village of Deer Park offers pleasant suburban living with a touch of charm, with a number of ponds and lakes, small and large, throughout the area, and rolling open countryside. Northwest inside and just outside of the village one finds the Cuba Marsh Forest Preserve that is a veritable gold mine for birdwatchers and where you also find other wildlife. Cuba Marsh is a haven for hiking, bicycling and cross-country skiing. Just south of the village is the 1800 acres (7.3 km²) Deer Grove Forest Preserve that offers walking and paved bicycle trails.

Residential zoning is mainly single family homes with lot of sizes of 1 acres (4,046.9 m²) or more. Upscale townhomes are available near the Deer Park Center. Metra/Chicago & Northwestern train line provides commuter service to Chicago with stations in nearby Barrington and Palatine.
