He was admitted to the Hawaii State bar in 1978 and began practicing law in Hawaii as a volunteer working with Phil Lowenthal in the Public Defender’s office. He then went into private practice as an associate with John Edmunds, Esq. in Honolulu.
For example, Mr. Simons has represented females who have been discriminated against in the workplace because of their gender and taken their cases to trial and gotten jury verdicts of over $1 million dollars. He has also represented clients who have been discriminated against because of their disabilities and won.
Another example is that Mr. Simons was one of the attorneys on the “Dream Team” recruited to assist former University of Hawaii
president, Evan Dobelle
when his employment was terminated by the State Board of Regents.
Mr. Simons has also written articles pertaining to the employment law field, including the article “Employment Law That Fits Our State – The Unique Features And Interpretation Of Hawaii’s Fair Employment Practices Act” featured in the Hawaii Bar Journal in March 2005.

Career
In 1984 he started his own law firm which expanded and he eventually hired several associates. Today he is a sole practitioner with an office in downtown Honolulu.
