Career

McKay started the 2007-08 season playing amateur football, playing for both Drumchapel United and Swinton every weekend. He already had 75 goals to his name during the season before Clyde took an interest in him. He was capped by the Scotland Amateur international team, and was previously working in the A.G. Barr

McKay signed for Clyde, his first professional club, on 19 February 2008, after impressing in a trial period, in which he scored two goals for the Reserve team.

He scored his first competitive goal for Clyde on August 30, 2008, in a 3-2 victory over St. Johnstone. McKay's contract was terminated in June 2009, following Clyde's relegation and financial troubles, however, in July 2009, he signed a new one month contract with the club. He left the club in December 2009.
