since 1995 and hosts RockSteady Mondays with DJ SUN at The Flat in Houston.

DJ SUN started a radio show in 1995, Soular Grooves on KPFT 90.1 FM, Pacifica Network, which celebrates its 15th year on the air in 2010. The genre of music leans to everything that has the aesthetics of soul and jazz, irrespective of bpm or tempo. The show has embraced anything from drum and bass, to hip hop, to house, and downtempo. DJ Sun fashions DJ sets to include all styles of music, incorporating the above stated aesthetic. DJ Sun started his DJ career in 1993 and keeping to that philosophy has maintained a career during which he has garnered Houston Press DJ of The Year awards 7 times between 1999 and 2009 (the last being again in 2009). He started a recording career during which 2 EPs have been released (http://www.houstonpress.com/2009-02-19/music/dj-sun-para-ep/) and is working on an album due in 2010.

He currently holds down four weekly residencies in Houston (of which RockSteady Mondays is his signature night and has been on-going since 2005) and one bi-monthly in DC (at Eighteenth Street Lounge, home of Thievery Corporation). He often travels to and plays in San Francisco, and New York, as well.

A prolific award-winning DJ and radio show host (Soular Grooves, KPFT 90.1, since 1995), DJ SUN’s style can best be described as varied with a distinct signature for loungey, groove-oriented eclectic music shaped by his exposure to music while living abroad. Houston’s most stylish lounges and bars such as Gravitas’ Side Bar and The Flat, and event producers for the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, Neiman Marcus, Neal Hamil Modeling Agency have tuned into DJ SUN’s gift for creating a unique lounging experience and attracting a loyal following of music connoisseurs and taste makers.

In 2007, DJ SUN begins a new musical journey carrying out his lifelong goal to be a full-time producer with the debut of Monday Drive (Alternate Take Records), an EP reflective of his varied background, blending styles and nostalgic aesthetics into a down to midtempo reprieve from the ordinary.
Driven by the positive feedback received from DJs around the world and spins on stations spanning from Atlanta (WRAS) to LA (KCRW) and NY to Paris — DJ SUN continued his work in the studio on Para, a 12” ep which features remixes from DJ Sabo (Sol Selectas), J Boogie (OM), and Genre Jazz (Presto and Mhax Montes) released in November 2008. A full-length LP will be released in 2010.
