The programme is telecast monthly in four languages: English ("Crimewatch"), Mandarin ("绳之以法"), Malay ("Jejak Jenayah") and Tamil ("Kutrak Kankaanippu"). The English version was first shown in 1986, followed by Mandarin, then Malay in year 2000 and Tamil in 2001.

The current presenters for the series includes Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Julius Lim and Teo Zi-Ming (English version), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Justin Wong (Mandarin version), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Zainal Ramli (Malay version) and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kalaichelvan Daniel (Tamil version).

Episode format

In most segments, through reenactments, the programme shows the details of what happened in a crime, as well as detailed sentencing of the suspect. The narrator describes the scene of the crime, however, the current presenter would take over for the sentencing part. The conclusion of each segment offers advice to the public for their own protection and safety related to that particular segment.
