Demographics

As of the 2010 census[3], there were 16,169 people, 5,297 households, and 4,248 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,504.4 people per square mile (1,354.2/km²). There were 5,491 housing units at an average density of 1,190.1 per square mile (459.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 4.51% White, 91.90% African American, 0.15% Native American, 1.01% Asian, 0.54% from other races, and 1.88% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.73% of the population.

The top three non-African American ancestries reported in Country Club Hills as of the 2000 census were German (2.0%), Irish (1.0%) and Polish (1.51%).[4]
There were 5,297 households out of which 40.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 32.4% were married couples living together, 43.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 9.6% were non-families. 12.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 5.05 and the average family size was 7.42.

In the city the population was spread out with 30.7% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 7.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 85.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $57,759.The per capita income for the city was $22,817. About 6.4% of families and 3.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.0% of those under age 18 and 9.1% of those age 65 or over.

Government

Country Club Hills is divided between two congressional districts. Nearly all of the city is in Illinois' 2nd congressional district, but some small areas along the city's western edge – primarily between 179th and 183rd Streets west of Lavergne Avenue – are in the 1st district

Developments

As of mid 2006, the City of Country Club Hills is home to Chicago metropolitan area's largest Wal-Mart Supercenter at over 203000 square feet (18,859.3 m²). The development serves as an anchor to the first phase of the "Gatling Square Mile," Cook County's largest parcel of undeveloped land at about 400 acres (1.6 km²).

Another ambitious project put forth by Mayor Dwight Welch and the City Council has been taking over the Country Club Hills Park District on December 15, 2005.Water park and Outlet mall soon to be developed in near future.
