Council of British International Schools

The Council of British International Schools (COBIS) is a membership organization of high-quality British schools worldwide. COBIS is a constituent member of the Independent Schools Council
(ISC) in the UK, and member schools are inspected by the UK-based Independent Schools Inspectorate
(ISI). Following a successful ISI inspection, COBIS can offer formal British Accreditation to schools abroad. COBIS offers: continuing professional development to teachers and heads through conferences and workshops; a system of international support for schools; a forum for discussion, networking, and sharing good practice; and quality-assurance.
COBIS was founded in 1981 as COBISEC (Council of British Independent Schools in the European Communities) and is a charitable association registered in The Hague
. The Association is managed by an elected Executive Committee that includes both heads and governors. In 2007 the decision was made to change the name of the organization to the Council of British International Schools (COBIS).
The Patron of COBIS is HRH Princess Alexandra, The Honourable Lady Ogilvy
and the Chairman is Dr Roger Fry CBE
