Thermodynamics
Thermodynamics is a physical science that studies the effects on material bodies, and on radiation in regions of space, of transfer of heat and of work done on or by the bodies or radiation...

the compressibility equation refers to an equation which relates the isothermal compressibility (and indirect the pressure) to the structure of the liquid. It reads:

(1)

where is the number density, g(r) is the radial distribution function
Radial distribution function
In statistical mechanics, a radial distribution function , g, describes how the atomic density varies as a function of the distance from one particular atom....

 and is the isothermal compressibility.

Using the Fourier representation of the Ornstein-Zernike equation the compressibility equation (1) can be rewritten in the form:

(2)

where h(r) and c(r) are the indirect and direct correlation functions respectively. The compressibility equation is one of the many integral equations in statistical mechanics
