It is solitary during most part of the year, but during their reproduction they use to live all together for some weeks: really bix dentex are all together just 2-3 weeks and this happens during spring in the warmer water which near the surface of the sea. Adult dentex can reach a length of more than one metre, and weight up to 20 kg.

Young dentex have a slightly different livery, brown-blue with blue fins, than adults, which are grey-blue.
