In 2010, he heard the case of the ₤1.7 million Heathrow warehouse robbery, involving four defendants - Twomey, Blake, Hibberd and Cameron - which was the first criminal trial in more than 300 years in Crown Court to be heard without a jury. He convicted all four men on 31 March 2010. This ended the 350 year precedent of all serious criminal charges in England and Wales being tried by judge and jury. The trial reportedly cost ₤25,000,000.
