History

The site was launched in 2001 under the name Film Hobbit, its original name attributed to founder Josh Tyler's love of movies and Lord of the Rings.

In 2004 the site was relaunched under the Cinema Blend name in an attempt to move away from the now completed Lord of the Rings series and to position itself better as a serious hub for movie news and reviews.

In April 2007, Time Magazine ran an article on the increasing influence of movie websites and their creators, which included an interview with Cinema Blend chief Josh Tyler.. Also in April, USA Today
