Chilton provides innovative patient care in a compassionate and healing environment focused on personalized care. Annually, it serves more than 160,000 patients across 33 communities.

In 1947, Forrest C. Chilton II, MD and his wife, Elizabeth, a registered nurse, donated land located on Newark-Pompton Turnpike to build a hospital in honor of their son, Forrest S. Chilton III, who died in World War II. In 1954, the 50-bed facility opened. In 1961, it was expanded to a 119-bed facility. The current facility on West Parkway houses 260 beds.

Chilton offers a large array of services to the community including: the Primary Stroke Center, Robot-Assisted Surgery, the Chilton Cancer Center, the Comprehensive Breast Center, The Total Joint Center, Family Care Services including the Mother Baby Center, Emergency Services, the Pediatric Emergency Department where patients see a pediatric emergency doctor within about 20 minutes of arrival guaranteed, the Sleep Health Institute, and the Wound Healing Center, offering Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Chilton is currently undergoing a $24 million renovation and modernization that focuses on optimizing the patient experience. All patient care areas are being modernized and redesigned to portray a soothing, comfortable environment, combining the latest technology and the warm comforts of home to reduce stress and promote healing. Among the enhancements, Chilton is tripling the number of its private rooms.
