Cheriton Fitzpaine primary school
The school building dating back to 1642 is the oldest thatch long house in the village, former use thought to have been that of the church house. In 1875 a school board was formed and the school started, with the local attendance officer as clerk to the board. With the addition of school house to the teaching space in 1983, this accommodated growing numbers, as well as providing the school space for an outdoor swimming pool. The School is currently campaigning for a new school to be built. The land has been acquired and plans are being drawn up in readiness for funding.This has been a long process begun by a pupil letter writing exercise in 1998. The local community is fortunate to have access to a large field for which many have seen the benefit. One such use is the schools sports days and games lessons. The parish council maintain the field and seek to make continual improvements the most recent addition being that of a basket ball hoop.Under elevens playground
