Admissions
There are currently around 1000 pupils on roll, including 240 in the mixed sixth form, and 64 teaching staff, however, the number of pupils has dropped over the last three years so the school will have around 900 pupils at the beginning of September 2010. History
The school was opened in January 1907, by Miss Constance Wakeman. The centenary was celebrated in 2006-2007 by the release of 1000 balloons and a school fete, however, there were many over smaller events all throughout the year from September 2006 to The end of June 2007. The school is very proud of its history, and photographs of all the headteachers are displayed within the school hall.Academic performance
The school has been rated Outstanding by Ofsted. In 2008, the school's Spanish Department won 'Spanish School of the Year' from the UK Spanish Embassy. The school also has an excellent GCSE and A-Level results record, in particular within its English Department, which consistently has achieved some of the best results in the country.Alumni
