Certain formal qualifications (i.e. degrees) may be credited towards an application for the award, and the experience requirement reduced accordingly. For an applicant who holds an accredited honours degree in an IT subject, the experience requirement may be reduced to 5 years. For holders of non-IT degrees, or holders of IT qualifications at HNC or HND level, the portion of credit given is less, and holders of an ordinary degree in a non-IT subject must still have 9 years of relevant work experience.

When this award has been conferred by the Council of the British Computer Society, the recipient is entitled to use the letters CITP after their name. In order to maintain this award, demonstrable CPD
