Previously, Pettigrew had lived in Boston where he was lead singer of the band Down Avenue. Down Avenue was the winner of radio station WBCN's 1985 Rock 'n Roll Rumble, he was also probably best known as half of R&B duo Charles and Eddie

Later life and death
