before taking up the position of player coach of the reserve side in 1933–34. Poynton had two spells at Ramsgate as player manager. In 1945 he was offered the role of the 1st team assistant trainer with the Spurs and was promoted to club trainer in 1947, a position
he kept till 1972 before becoming the club's physiotherapist.
Poynton died at St. Ann's Hospital
