Catigbian is a 4th class municipality in the province of Bohol, Philippines

Catigbian was formerly known as San Jacinto, and only officially changed to its current name in the 1950s.

This four-day event has several activities lined up starting with the opening of the festival with a parade after a holy mass. It is followed by a comparza and a talent contest of Miss Katigbawan candidates during the day. Judging of the display of agro fair, bloodletting and motorcross takes place on the second day. On the third day, it was the turn of the Carabao Parade with carabao-racing and hog catching at central elementary school and the Search for Catigbian's prettiest, with the Miss Katigbawan Beauty Pageant in the evening. On the fourth day is the Street Dancing and then a fire works display to cap the festival.

Origin of the name
Catigbian was named after a grass called Katigbi, which grows abundantly in the area. Many years ago, some people in the lowlands came to this town and the liked the place and decided to settle there. They cleared the place where the Katigbi grew and converted it into rice paddies and corn fields.Barangays

Catigbian is composed of two parishes, the Immaculate Conception Parish (church located in Poblacion Weste) and the Sto. Niño Parish (Church located in Baang. The former celebrates its Feast Day every December 8 in honor of the Immaculate conception of the Virgin Mary while the latter on the third Saturday of January in honor of the Holy Child Jesus.Tourism

Getting there
The Municipality of Catigbian is located 35 kilometres (21.7 mi) from Bohol's capital city, Tagbilaran. It is just a 50-minute trip from Tagbilaran, going north passing thru the towns of Cortes, Corella and Balilihan. The most common means of public transportation going to and from Catigbian is by bus. Van-for-hire and taxis going to and from Tagbilaran are also available in the morning and in late afternoon.Education
