The old Victorian building (and associated portable classrooms) were replaced in the mid-1970s with the famous flying saucer shape/open-plan schools design, which was a rarity in Scotland at the time. Sadly this was burned down in in a fire on Boxing Day 1994 and re-opened in May 1996 with a more traditional exterior shape. Previous Heads have been Fiona McDonald and Marion Hughes

Carmyle Primary has had a new headteacher, Mrs Linda Logue since January 2009. The Depute Head is Mrs Linda Baird. The school has a recently revamped website:
